I Think We're About There!

Well, well, well. Looking through these pictures, I can't even begin to describe the boat-load of frickin' work our house has been... All inside, outside, and yard, of it. Yikes. It makes me tired just thinking about it! Now that we have almost the whole house updated (we are in the process of our last update- replacing the doors upstairs and finished the tub a couple weeks ago (post on that coming soon!)), it feels so good! Just in time for the new baby to get here. I remember so many long nights (especially in the winter, aghhhhh!), entertaining Rad, steering him away from the projects Wren was working on, thinking, "Will this ever end?" Projects can be irritating on their own, then add in a baby and it's hard. I'm sure we'll have our little projects here and there because we're us, but all the main things are done and it feels awesome. We couldn't do it with two.

After remodeling the kitchen, the outside just did not match the style of the inside. Like at all. We were kind of at a loss what we could do to make it current. Paint the brick? No. So many people told us we'd be crazy to do that because I guess it takes away the thermal layer, one of the beauties of brick I guess, and we actually really do like the color and it's in good condition. So after much debate, we nixed the painting of the brick idea. So what we did was add on a garage. I call it Wren's four day garage. He literally built it in four days. I was dying. What a guy! We painted the soffit and siding a really dark charcoal gray, added shutters (thank you DAD!!!), and a new front door (I finally got my beloved mid-century front door!) We wanted a fun color for the door and garage without it being too overbearing and are really happy with the blue color we chose. It was scarrrrry deciding though.
Here is the realtor's picture of the house before we even bought it.
Ouch. That's scary, Everything was so overgrown and dated!
Member our post about these no good, dirty, rotten, fitzer bushes? Oh man. Hard times.
This below, is a picture of our house last year. It was getting better but still had a long way to go.
Although, our flower beds were kind of amazing if I do say so myself! And that baby!? He's growing so fast!
Here were the plans we had for the house last year...
...and we were able to accomplish all of them plus lots more. Check, check, check!
It's fun to look back and see that, although it took us 2 1/2 years to get here, we've done everything we've wanted to do. As much work as it's been, we've had lots of fun doing and dreaming about it, and Radcliff is just the biggest champ and helper of all. He tells us everything we do looks, "Sooooo goood guys!", and has been so patient with our five million runs to Home Depot. We've had the garage done for months now and still every single time we pull up to it, he says, "Daddy, you did such a good job on the garage!" And in the midst of working, he always pulls both of us close and says, "Family loves!" What a dude. He's ours!

What We're Loving for Our Kitchen!

Our kitchen is so close to being done I can just smell the cooking that's going to go down soon. As stressful as it's been trying to live in a place that doesn't have a kitchen, it's been the funnest thing picking everything out. With unlimited choices for each thing we have chosen (this is good and bad), we have researched and researched to find quality items for good prices. Here are some things that we've purchased so far. I hope this list might help you if you are looking to remodel or update your kitchen!

So this cast iron kitchen sink is a splurge for us, but we figure that what we've saved on kitchen cabinets we can afford in a sink. It is a Kohler Indio sink. I love that it's just one big basin. Wren and I never leave dishes in the sink (it's my pet peeve to a fault!) so a double sink is kind of useless for us. I love the modern square look of this and it comes with a basin rack and cutting board that both sit inside the sink. I also really love that the faucet sits on the right-hand side. I think it's unique and fun and says I'm here to party baby.

We are still debating on a faucet because there are so many fun ones out there. But we are thinking we'll go with this one...
Or this one...
Your thoughts? What's your favorite faucet right now?

Let's just say this Tom Dixon knock off light had me at first sight. As an avid gold and shine lover, I knew I had to get three of these pendants to hang over our table. Done, done, and done. Cha-ching!

My dad's friend hooked us up with a carrara marble slab for our counter-tops and back-splash. Excited to get it installed and have a counter top again. Our ironing board just isn't cutting it anymore :)

We ordered our cabinets from Ikea and are in the process of building them right now. It's actually been something really fun to do with Wren at nights after the man child goes to bed. We are combining white and a grayish-brown wood color (really similar to the scheme below) for a really fun mid-century feel. I can't wait to have the bad boys built already. Get working honey, they ain't building themselves! Come to think of it, our backslash will look real similar to the one below as well. Two birds with one stone, what do ya know?...

We went with a 12x14 inch honed tile for the floor and baseboard that I think will be my favorite part of the kitchen. It has very subtle gold and gray veins through it that give it the perfect amount of "wow". We debated whether Wren was going to do it, or if we should hire it out. We hired it out, and let me tell you what... Well worth the money spent. The guy did it perfectly and I pretty much sit on it all day long, and next to my little heater of course! The image below is the closest I could find to what ours looks like.

We scoured the internet for hours looking for a counter depth french door fridge and finally found this LG one below at RC Willey clearance center. It was already reduced, but after throwing out my mad bartering skills that I'm so famous for, I got them down a whopping $1,600 off the retail price because of a couple small dings. Wren and I stare at that sexy little fridge all day long. The things we get off on. Weird.

We also painted one of the walls in our kitchen black and I think I'm kind of loving it. I will take some pictures of the actual kitchen next week!

Happy Friday! TGIF already!

Yard, Check, Check, Check... + Link Up!

Curb appeal is such a big deal, in my opinion, and slowly but surely we are getting there with it. We have done so much but still have lots we'd like to do (as noted above).
If you have been following along with our home improvements since we moved in, you might remember this post on tearing out our dumby Fitzer bushes. Here are some pictures below of the before...
I just shuttered looking at those.
And the after...
That pink cluster fest started out as one tiny little flower. It really pays to fill your beds with the stinky nasty compost from the dump. Our flowers have eaten it up and really taken over our beds!
My mom and Dad have helped us so much with our yard and it's been fun learning about new flowers and plants. Somehow in the millions of dead heading and weed pulling I've done, I've learned I really do enjoy yard work!

A Place I Liken To Hell- Our Basement + Link Up!

This is happening. And unfortunately in a big, fat, major way.
We are braving the hell that is our basement. It's ghostly, and ghoulish and the saddest part of all is it took a butt load of work to get it in the ungodly state you are seeing it in. Because once upon a time wood paneling was in style... and that? Is a down right crime. Wren busted his buns to get it down and because we are so ghetto fabulous it's all sitting underneath the snow in our backyard with its friend old kitchen sink, and rigamortised Christmas tree. We are classy. And for those of you who buy a house with an unfinished basement, feel lucky. At least you're dealing with a clean slate, you hear me?!?
Because I'm such an insanely awesome wife, I made Wren his very own fancy tool belt. Don't be jelly men.  I am.
Oh and I helped Wren carry in fifty slabs of sheetrock too. That deserves a she woman high five especially,  and I mean especially, since the $h!T$ were bundled in twos. Dang those heavy twosomes. Good thing I'm stronger than Wren.
How attracted to those spiders are you?
Very?
And this my friends was the laundry room I was forced to do laundry in as I said nasty swear words underneath my breath...
I never looked up.  I never looked down.  Only into the washer.
And here's the little tiny bit of progress we've made.
It may not look like much now but picture white cabinets, shiny white back splash, and for crying our loud... real sheetrocked WALLS!
LOTS and LOTS more where this came from to come. Unfortunately.
Now it's...
