Ginger Cookies in White Chocolate

Over the Holidays I've been on a baking frenzy up in her!  Our favorite treat, and by favorite I mean we have not stopped shoveling them in our mouths since the second these bad boys came out of the oven, would have to be these ginger cookies straight from Wren's Grandma Jeanie's cookbook.  Everything that lady made was tasty and these are no exception.

Here's how...
Ginger Cookies
(Wren's favorite...grandma always made them just for him:)
3/4 C shortening
1 C. brown sugar
1/4 C molasses
2 T. milk
1 egg
2 1/4 C flour
2 t. soda
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. ginger
1/2 t. cloves
1/4 t. salt

Mix & cover, chill 1 hr. roll in balls, dip in sugar and bake 8 mins. 350

After they cooled off, I took it upon myself to make them ever naughtier by dipping them in white chocolate.
YUM.
Thanks for the recipe Grandma Jeanie!

Our First Dinner Guests...

...included the cutest little, almost, three year old you've ever seen (our nephew), and his happy family (his mom and dad- Wren's sister and her husband).
And yes, that's right people... no need to check your peepers.  I finally made the Oreo cake that I have been wanting to try forever.  I have to say it turned out great (rare for me).  In fact, it's sick how much the leftovers consumed my thoughts the following days after.
We bought the pans HERE and I think it's going to be my new go-to desert from here on out!  The recipe comes with the pans.  I think you all should get yourselves some!
Anyway, look at us breakin our new place in :)
Whoever thought it would happen!?
We weren't sure if it would...
Do YOU want to come over for dinner?
We'd love it!

Snowed In

Last night was one of the first real blizzards of the season.
Wren got home from work, I canceled all of my prior commitments for the night, took a bath, and we ate and watched movies and ate and watched movies.
Saying it was an amazing, so needed, lazy night would be an understatement.
Chocolate covered gummy bears will be the death of us.
I promise you that.
I also got lucky and somehow had every single ingredient for THIS recipe (that has never happened).
These my friends are mac and cheese cups.
So easy and were pretty much bomb.
Bring on the blizzards Spring!
P.S. Has anyone ever seen Jody Foster's 1976 film called The Little Girl Who Lives Down The Lane?  We started it half as a joke last night, and both of us actually really liked it.
Here's the trailer for your viewing pleasure, and yes, I guess they did have trailers back then!

There's just something so nostalgic about old movies isn't there?

The Holidays...& Whatever, Whenever, Wednesday Link Up!

I was looking through Pinterest yesterday (which I normally do not do, it's just way too overwhelming for me, but nonetheless I did) and I spotted TONS of cute stuff that I thought would be so fun for the holidays...
With Thanksgiving only a couple days away, I had to share.

Are these shoes not the cutest things... EVER?
They are.  Even Santa would be tryin to catch my eye :)
We are making desert for a Holiday party this year, do I dare try these?
They are pretty adorable and Wren's family would be thinking, "Oh my gosh, Savannah, what a domestic wife Wren has."  I'd have them fooled and I'd feel cool.  If I can pull them off that is.  Maybe I'll outsource and claim they're mine ;)
Love this dress.
Would have no where in the world to wear it to, but still a nice idea that one day I might.
When I'm famous ;)
Fun little spin off of white tips, perfect for the holidays.
Normally I wear earrings that are large and in charge, but these little studs... are studs.
I love me some peppermint, especially this time of year.  My mother-in-law's Baked Alaska is pretty much to die for.
I would imagine these would taste similar.
I thought about maybe attempting these for the holiday party, for like a fragment of a second, and then I threw that idea out fast  Who am I kidding.  This would completely push me over the edge.
Love these brown nails.  So fun for Thanksgiving.  Too bad they don't have this color in Shellac, because this would start chipping off a day after spending an hour painting it.
Why is nail polish so crappy like that?
Nail polish, you have the right to remain cute for a day, and then super annoying for a week after.
 LOVE this green coat.
This whole outfit is so fun.  Again, no where in the world to wear it to...
Maybe to Cafe Rio? ;)
Aren't these silver shoes fun?  I could be Santa's little helper.

And last but not least, I'm getting these slippers and wearing them all year long.
And Wren will love me even more and won't be embarrassed or ashamed by me in the least :)
Have a WONDERFUL THANKSGIVING if I don't post before then!

Now for the link up party!

Cupcakes For Lunch, OKAY!

Has anyone here in the Salt Lake Valley been to Swirly Girls Gourmet Bakery?
Pardon the hair, Wren calls me "Wind Blown" when my hair's like this.
How Rude....

Swirly Girls is such a cute little bakery shop.
Their cupcakes are quite scrumptious if I do say so myself.
I had the Orange flavored cupcake, and Jenna had the Cookies and Cream.
I devoured mine, and I think it's safe to say....
....Jenna liked hers too.

In fact, as she was finishing her last bite, which was a BIG bite BTW, she attempted to lean over in her chair to look at a tag on my shirt when out of the clear blue sky, her chair slipped out from under her, and she fell side-wards on her side, almost landing on the rest of the cupcakes....
(That was a KILLER run on sentence)
As she was going down I was thinking...."NOOOOOOOO, not the cupcakes!"  I'm a good friend huh?
And she was probably trying to say, "Heeeelp", but all I could see was a mouth full of brown.
She barely missed the cupcakes, thanks to me directing her away from them (can you tell I was worried about em?) and then we shared a great BIG old laugh with tears and all :)
Why do we find such humor at the expense of other's misfortunes?
I love you Jenna, but THAT was funny!

ANYWAY...
I'd highly recommend Swirly Girl's cupcakes for lunch anytime!
And maybe if you're REALLY lucky, your friend will fall over in her chair on her last BIG bite :)
I know it made my day....

Vanilla-Curry Caramel Popcorn

Okay guys, ya ready for a mouth watering treat? Ya... I figured.
K this is a recipe I found in my beloved O Magazine this month. It's called Vanilla-Curry Caramel Popcorn.
Here's what to grab:

8 Tbsp. (1 stick) butter
1 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup agave nectar
2 tsp. mild curry powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. baking soda
10 cups popped popcorn (from 1/2 cup un-popped popcorn kernels)

K first, put 1/4 cup popcorn in two brown paper bags (totaling 1/2 cup, don't tell me I can't add).  Microwave each bag separately for two minutes.  PULEEAASE make sure ALL the popcorn kernels are popped or else you'll have to make a whole other batch like little-miss-rushed-all-the-time made the mistake of doing.  I didn't pop them all the way in the first batch and chipped two teeth thank you very much.
So ANNOYING & PAINFUL, so learn from my misfortune, pop the little devils all the way.
Once both bags are popped, shove popcorn in the biggest bowl ya got (the bigger the bowl, the easier it will be to stir in the caramel sauce later).
Next, melt the butter in a pan. Stirring in the brown sugar, agave, curry powder, and salt.
Once it's all stirred in real good, bring to boil and let boil for 4 minutes. After, remove pan from heat and add vanilla and baking soda. Stir until thoroughly mixed in.  Working quickly, and efficiently might I add :), pour the caramel sauce (everything you just mixed together in the pan, I was a little slow on the uptake there, I thought I needed to buy extra caramel, hello I just made the caramel) anyway, pour it over the popcorn in the bowl stirring until sauce is evenly coating all the popcorn.  Once coated, lay popcorn out on waxed paper lined cookie sheets.  Let cool and serve.  This makes about 10 cups or 4 servings,
whichever suits your fancy ;)
FIY, I also melted a Hershey's milk chocolate bar in a bowl in the microwave and poured over the popcorn, like so:
AND, it was heavenly....

GOOD luck to you!

Night at the Farm with my Cutie :)

Last night Wren met me at Gardner Village to go shopping and get chocolate.  I brought my baby a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cause he was stervin....
Doesn't he look handsome all dressed up?  Everyone at his work asked him if he had an interview and he said, "No, I just went shopping at Ross last night."  :)  LOVE him!

He also told his worker friends that he can't wait how to learn eyelash extensions so he can perform them on his wife.  They all laughed and laughed but the thing is, he's dead serious guys.  Mark my words, he'll be amazing at them too, and will save TONS of moolah!  You want yours done by him?  K, he'll do em.  He also cuts my hair too which means he currently cuts more hair than I do cause he cuts his own as well.  Now that's sad.  I guess he's replaced the cosmetologist in the family.

ANYWAY, we went and got some chocolate haystacks and my all time fave; sea foam.  Oh words can't express the love I have for sea foam.

Wren was excited about his haystack...
Can you tell?

I look way too cool for words here.
After we went to Down to Earth and looked at couches.  Let me tell you what, Wren LOVES these types of stores so much, on opposite day that is ;)

Can you tell he's having the time of his life?  He kept looking at way nice couches saying, "Ya, I'd pay $50 for that."  HA.  I told him he should tell the sales associates that, I'm sure they'd get a real kick.
I LOVE him :)
I got a little tired myself so decided to kick back as well....
I sure do love this guy!  Glad he's mine forever :)

Happy Friday!

Have a FABULOUS weekend!
Boating tomorrow? I think we WILL!
